Project Overview

One World Trade Center is a 104-story skyscraper in Lower Manhattan standing 1,776 feet tall with 3.5 million square feet of space. A defining structural element is its 408-foot, 700-ton steel spire, assembled in 14 distinct sections.

Structural Bolting Challenges at One WTC

  • Floor-Climbing Crane Systems: Securing the heavy-duty self-climbing tower crane structures used for constructing the tower itself.
  • Communications Rings: Assembling and securing massive structural rings designed to hold critical broadcast and communications infrastructure near the top of the tower.
  • 408-Foot Steel Spire: Torquing 60 critical structural bolts at an elevation of 1,701 feet, with each fastener requiring over 4,000 ft.-lbs. of controlled torque.
